An Educational Seminar for
Parents, Teachers and Caretakers of
Babies, Toddlers and K-2nd,
Presented by Irene Pierce Panayi
My philosophy…
Research shows that the experiences that children have and the things they are exposed to (beginning as babies) can impact the neuron connections that are formed in their brains. Research also shows that stress inhibits optimal brain function and I think many of today’s approaches to learning and education are stressful for children. Thus, I’ve developed a list of tips and strategies that will help children to blossom in all of areas listed above—naturally! And that’s the goal!
The tips and strategies that I share are creative and they work. I firmly believe that if children engage in fun, rich experiences, the learning will happen naturally (without stress) the way learning is supposed to happen. Given that reading and writing form the foundation of all subjects throughout school, I put an added emphasis on tips that will help children to become solid in these areas—And the sooner you start the tips, the better! I also believe that things like being socially confident and appreciating good quality food can be cultivated in children. Lastly, our society puts a major emphasis on “developing smart children” (children who know a lot) and not enough attention on “developing great thinkers.” Meanwhile, great, creative thinkers are on the forefront of innovation, drive the the world's greatest inventions and become great problem-solvers as well. Thus, I make a point to share tips that will help children to think in new creative ways as well.
About me and the unique insight I offer…
As a 27 year stay-at-home mom, not only did I attend numerous conferences and do extensive research on child development, but I tried the tips first-hand with my own children so I know they work (I share some mistakes I made, too). In addition, my children spent a combined nine years in public schools and 13 years in three of the nation’s top private schools (And I spent my time volunteering in them) so I’ve acquired a wealth of experience and knowledge to share!
My children attended The Princeton Day School in Princeton, NJ, PDS, The National Cathedral School in Washington DC, NCS, and The Flint Hill School in Oakton, Va) so as a bonus discussion (if desired), I will summarize the differences between public and private schools (from an experience perspective) and will also shed insight on the difference between co-op versus traditional preschools from an experience perspective as well.
